Our Own Culture Audit
Pam interviewing project manager Meghan.
The microphone was turned on us last Friday when all of our team members were interviewed for our very own Story Archive. Here’s what happened:
I’m totally flying with stories about our company (right, it’s our thing!). I’m talking about the time our videographer was taken into custody by hospital security during the Ebola crisis. I’m laughing about what happened when a client asked us to connect with a stranger on the spot to prove we were good at getting stories. I’ve got my serious reflection face on as I talk about what we’ve learned from our clients, how I met my cofounder, where I see Stories in ten years.
I got this.
Then, our core values questions. “What’s an example how you or a team member have Found the Win-Win scenario?”
Ummmm… hmm…. nope, I got nothing.
Because it happened to us, I can tell you with confidence: Our methodology audits your culture.
Leaders think core values are driving their culture, and they know their work environment. But when pressed to come up with meaningful examples that back up one (or more!) values, employees are scrambling. With our methodology, we can tell that you are not fostering the culture you thought, and exactly which values aren’t resonating and sticking with your team. Culture Audit!
Why? Is it because you thought, years ago, your culture would be one way, and it went the other? Is it because it’s not on your leadership’s mind, and they aren’t focused on and driving this value throughout the organization? Or, are your values hard to execute in harmony?
I found we were practicing one value at the expense of another. Creative problem solving should be at the core of what we do, to find the Win-Win scenario for everyone (clients, employees, ourselves, and Stories Inc in general). And now that we know, it’s a renewed focus for all of us when faced with a situation where one will win at the expense of another.
Let’s talk about how we help you evaluate and celebrate your workplace at the same time. Sounds like a Win-Win!
