Improve candidate experience with hiring manager videos
Give culture clarity and improve candidate experience with hiring manager videos.
Top candidates may be scrolling past your job descriptions. They’re not applying because your content doesn’t provide them with real insight. You need to show them what it’s like to work at your company.
Answer candidates’ most burning questions
Two big questions every candidate has are, “Will I fit into my team culture?” and “What will my manager be like?” Thus, a real employee story from the hiring manager stops the scroll. Provide candidates with a firsthand account of who their hiring manager is. This gives them exactly what they’re looking for.
Hiring manager videos that get candidates to connect with their story get applications.
Research supports this.
- 72 percent of hiring managers believe they provide clear job descriptions. Yet, 36 percent of candidates find most job descriptions fail to give insight into the role or culture. (HR Dive)
- Candidates find employee voices, including hiring managers’, three times more credible than the CEO’s when it comes to talking about working conditions in that company. (Glassdoor)
- 58 percent of candidates who are leaving their current jobs due to culture cite their managers as the reason. (SHRM)
Hiring manager videos give candidates immediate answers, thus immediately improve the candidate experience.
Hiring manager stories communicate culture
The most compelling content hiring managers can share with prospective team members are real stories about their experiences, and how they shaped them into the leader they are today. Stories show candidates what it’s really like to work at a company, and are more interesting, believable and memorable than non-stories-based content.
For instance, someone interested in joining the primary care team at Ochsner Health System would personally benefit from hearing the stories captured in this video. It includes perspectives from their possible immediate supervisor, as well as her supervisor, on ways Ochsner cultivates leadership. These personal stories and firsthand examples powerfully prove a culture with leadership opportunities and support.
Stories from hiring managers also make prospective bosses accessible and approachable for candidates. In this example, the leader of AstraZeneca’s U.S. Cardiovascular Metabolism team gets vulnerable with her story of a time she sought an internal promotion and experienced imposter syndrome. She shares how her manager saw something in her that she didn’t see herself, and she now aspires to share that vision and inspiration with those she leads today.
Taking our own advice
We do this ourselves at Stories Inc. When hiring for new positions, we supply candidates with content featuring the hiring manager. Currently, we’re hiring for a Business Development Representative to join our Sales and Marketing team. This person will report directly to our Sales Lead, Peter Jennings, so we are promoting the position on social featuring this short video.
This video — optimized for social channels — gives candidates, in less than a minute, a sense of their future manager’s personality.
Spotlight your hiring managers
This is yet another use case for Stories Inc.’s Employee Spotlights. Hiring manager videos not only recognize and humanize the leader, but they also improve candidate experience. By capturing stories from the supervisors of key positions, you’ll create recruitment marketing content that will set you apart in the sea of vague and generic text.
One interview with a hiring manager will produce great stories you can optimize per candidate channel, so it’s not just a one-and-done profile piece. These stories are compelling content for job descriptions, career sites, talent nurture emails, social recruiting, and more.
And, those stories can also be repurposed as employee engagement content, too.
