How Five of the Best Careers Pages Use Employee Story Content
Careers sites are underrated.
Considering it’s one of the first places candidates visit on their journey with you, leaving a lasting impression is one of the most important things your career site needs to do.
But, most sites still use stock photos and long-winded text paragraphs. A career site full of stock images and jargon won’t keep your candidates around for long, and is that really how you want to portray your company culture, anyway?
After looking at all 100 career sites of the Fortune 100 Best Places to Work list, we saw that the best careers pages included employees and their stories. So we got to work combing through hundreds of sites to find the ones that stood out by including meaningful content to attract and convert candidates.
Five of the best careers pages
We’re breaking down why Capital One, Canva, Wegmans, GDIT, and Synchrony are some of our favorite career sites using employee story content.
Capital One
We’re huge fans of the employer brand at Capital One. They always lead with their associates’ stories and those stories infuse a lot of personality into their career site and other content.
What’s great about the Capital One career site:
- The video in the hero section is fun, colorful, and engaging.
- A section leading to their associate stories is within the first scroll of the page.
- High-quality, colorful, and diverse associate imagery is used throughout the site.
- The video on the main page is story-based about what it means to change banking through tech.
Canva
What we love most about the Canva career site is that it matches their brand. If you’ve ever designed something in Canva, the look and feel of its career site will be very familiar.
Canva went all-in on employee story content and imagery, from the home page header to the individual team pages.
What’s great about the Canva career site:
- Beautiful design that matches the Canva brand with an emphasis on employee photography.
- The “Discover Your Team” section points to personalized content by job categories, including employee stories.
- The lead video on their Belonging page includes a wide range of voices and meaningful, short stories about inclusion.
Wegmans
Colorful, fun, and engaging. Those three words sum up Wegman’s career site. It’s a site that makes you want to stay and click around!
We love Wegman’s approach to employee content. The imagery and videos of their team members in their work environments, or with everyday work items, paint a realistic picture of their jobs.
What’s great about the Wegmans career site:
- Employees are front and center across every page.
- The benefits page is incredibly thorough and leads to even more employee story content.
- Video content is scattered across the site. The videos about the culinary teams are some of the best job previews we’ve seen.
GDIT
GDIT is a great example of carrying an employee value proposition through its career site and content. Its “Opportunity Owned” tagline is the foundation of all the stories shared across the site.
We love seeing a variety of employees featured across all their career pages, both in photos and videos.
What’s great about the GDIT careers site:
- The contrast of white space and dark gray studio imagery makes it easy for their people to stand out.
- The Meet Our People page shares a diverse range of stories—by background, role, and experience.
- Almost every page includes employee story video content, whether it’s focused on culture, diversity, or talent category.
Synchrony
We discovered Synchrony’s career site while reviewing the sites of the 100 Best Places to Work.
The simplicity of the career site home page caught our eye. No scrolling involved. Just three buttons that lead you to content on their teams, their culture, and life at Synchrony.
What’s great about the Synchrony site:
- While its homepage is simple, its other pages are full of great content about culture, benefits, and opportunities.
- The culture page strategically uses video and other employee-based content to tell the Synchrony story in a compelling way.
- They use a variety of mediums to tell their culture stories. On their Life at Synchrony blog, we particularly liked how they communicated changes after listening to their employees.
Real employees make for the best careers pages
All these career sites use real photos of their employees and teams to provide a window into what it’s like to work there.
They also share real employee experiences and stories to help candidates picture themselves working there.
These five career sites are great examples of providing substantial content to attract candidates and convey culture and brand.
