Company

Stellantis is a global automotive company that designs, manufactures, and sells vehicles under 14 brands, including Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram.

Stellantis develops, engineers, manufactures, and scales top quality vehicles while leading the charge in electrification and software development, with cutting-edge technologies at the heart of their products and services. With nearly 300,000 employees, industrial operations in more than 30 countries, and customers in more than 130 markets, Stellantis is among the most diverse companies in the world.
Challenge

Recognize the people that do the work building our products for their critical input and attract and retain manufacturing team members amidst a historic labor shortage.

Internally, Stellantis saw a disconnect: despite manufacturing being the heart of Stellantis’ business, very few people knew the people behind the vehicles. Celebrating the stories of manufacturing team members would boost morale and drive employee engagement and retention.

The manufacturing skills gap in the U.S. could result in 2.1 million unfilled jobs by 2030. In order to stay competitive, Stellantis needed to find a way to attract and retain top manufacturing talent and to demonstrate the positives of working in the automotive industry.

Externally, a Meet the Makers series would highlight how high-tech the automotive industry has become and introduce the next generation to what a manufacturing career at Stellantis can offer.

Solution

Meet the Makers video series

Stellantis’ internal communications team partnered with Stories Inc. to create a Meet the Makers series spotlighting manufacturing talent at every phase of the vehicle production process.
We interviewed 26 employee storytellers across six different manufacturing sites and their North American Technology Center. All of the selected storytellers had been at Stellantis for 5+ years and represented a wide variety of roles, career paths, and backgrounds. During the interviews, we uncovered stories about what brought them to the auto industry, what they like about their job, and why they stay. The Stories team also captured hours of hands-on broll footage of the storytellers doing their work.
The footage was used to create 28 videos from management to team members across all parts of the vehicle production process. Rock music was chosen as the background music to capture the feeling of the manufacturing floor and the excitement of a career in the auto industry.

“One of the things that really drew us to working with the Stories Inc. team is their expertise in uncovering employee stories. We didn’t want to put words in people’s mouths. We wanted to tell our story through our employees’ actual experiences.”

Results

“The series was so well received, not just with the people in our plants but with executives in different departments, that we were given the green light to do a second series this year.”

Stellantis first launched the series internally on the company’s intranet. The videos were an immediate success, driving an uptick in intranet traffic, especially from team members in featured locations and from leadership eager to celebrate these team member stories.
After the successful internal launch, Stellantis published the videos on their YouTube channel to promote their culture to candidates and others outside the company. The videos have received more than 15,000 views on that channel alone.
